Suspected looters face single felony charge

Aug. 9, 2010 | 0 comments

Muskego — The two 18-year-old Milwaukee men taken into custody for allegedly looting in Muskego after the city was hit by a tornado June 21 have been charged with felony theft of a firearm by the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office.

Nicolas Zuber will face a preliminary hearing Aug. 20. A hearing is scheduled for Eusebio Narvaez on Aug. 26.

The pair is accused of stealing a shotgun from a garage in the 6600 block of South Muskego Drive.

According to the complaint, the two admitted to entering unlocked garages and about 40 unlocked vehicles. They took cash, GPS units, alcohol, a buck knife and the shotgun. Muskego police found many stolen items hidden under a tree shortly after arriving in the area about 3:30 a.m. June 22, the complaint states.

Early reports indicated the suspects admitted they targeted Muskego thinking that police would be busy dealing with the tornado.

Although Muskego police sought charges for nearly two dozen offenses, including burglary, theft and trespassing, Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel chose to prosecute only for the firearm theft.

Schimel said most of the other potential charges are misdemeanors, so the focus is on the felony firearm theft. But those other offenses would be read into the record for the judge to consider at sentencing if the two were convicted, he said.

In an unrelated case, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office charged Narvaez with felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. He gave an address of Wind Lake when he was charged July 30.

Zuber pleaded no contest to a citation for a petty theft that happened Feb. 16. As of March, he gave his address as Big Bend. He was fined $200, according to the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access database.
