Muskego — The biggest change in the Muskego-Norway School District as school opens Sept. 1 will be that 4-year-olds can join the routine.
In addition, the teaching ranks, though slightly reduced by budget cuts, and school administration will feature new faces.
K4 kids
The district has implemented its first 4-year-old kindergarten, and, as of last week, 186 children were signed up for the optional K4 program.
They will attend private preschools at seven sites under an arrangement with the public school district. The district approved all the teachers, but they are employees of the preschools.
New principal
Mill Valley Elementary School has a new principal, Linda O'Bryan, who succeeds Sue Borden, who became superintendent of the Germantown School District.
O'Bryan has been an educator for 26 years, serving 24 of them in the Muskego-Norway District. She taught several elementary grades during her early service at Lakeview Elementary School and has been at Lake Denoon Middle School for 10 years, including the last three as associate principal.
New teachers
Lakeview Elementary School has two new teachers: Ashley Vongnarath, kindergarten, and Megan McGuire, special education.
At Muskego Elementary, Sarah Keating is the new first and second grade teacher.
New at Lake Denoon Middle School is Amanda Kapczynski, grade 6; Joshua LeGreve, Spanish; and John Meuler, grade 7.
New at Bay Lane Middle School is Lynn Welander, Spanish; and Kimberly Nordlie, Lauren Pierson and Laura Kerrigan, all grade 7.
Allyce Jung is the new math teacher at Muskego High.
The staff was reduced by 3.2 positions, with a net 1.6 reduction after Spanish teachers were hired to meet demand.
Fees will stay the same, including lunch, which remain at $2.10 for the standard lunch for elementary students and $2.50 for secondary students.
