Citizens send an anti-crime message with National Night Out

Aug. 3, 2010 | 0 comments

Muskego — The Police Department will hold its third annual National Night Out from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 at Veteran's Memorial Park, S8200 Racine Ave.

National Night Out will feature displays by the Police Department that highlight its community-based anti-crime programs. The Tess Corners Fire Department also will demonstrate life-saving equipment and the Muskego Fire Department will have a smoke house.

In addition, there will be demonstrations and displays by other local, state and federal agencies, including the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department's canine unit, the U.S. Coast Guard, the FBI and the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

Attendees also will be able to take a ride on The Convincer, a machine that demonstrates the importance of wearing seatbelts. Drivers also can try their hands at the distracted driver simulator and see what can happen when texting while driving. And there will be a visit from Flight for Life.

In addition there will be face painting and bouncy houses. The first 500 children will receive a free T-shirt. The celebration will come to a close with a GlowStick Walk, which symbolizes residents' resolve to take back the night.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime programs, strengthen police-community partnerships, and send a message that communities are organized and fighting back, according to police.
