At least one race develops in 2012 elections

Muskego alderman has challenger as filing begins

Dec. 6, 2011 | 0 comments

A race has already shaped up in the Muskego and New Berlin area for the April election.

The race will be in Muskego's aldermanic District 5, where first-term incumbent Dan Soltysiak will face challenger John Engelhardt. Both filed declarations of candidacy, but still need to file the required number of signatures.

The filing deadline for candidates isn't until 5 p.m. Jan. 3 for municipal and school seats.

Other Muskego aldermen whose terms expire in April are Tracy Snead, 1st District, and Neil Borgman, 3rd District. Borgman said he plans to run again.

Aldermanic terms are two years and aldermen receive $7,639 annually.

Muskego municipal judge Patrick Berigan, who has served since 2002, also filed a declaration of candidacy for another two-year term. The municipal judge receives $11,000.

New Berlin will have no municipal elections in 2012.

But in the New Berlin School District, the terms of Peggy LaSalle and Susan Manley will be up in April. As of Monday morning, only challenger Jeffrey Kurth had filed to run for a three-year term. New Berlin School Board members receive $3,500 annually.

On the Muskego School Board, the terms of Eric Schroeder, who is in his second term, will expire along with those of Michael Serdynski in his first term, and Lisa Warwick in her second term. Schroeder and Serdynski have already said they will run for another three-year term. School Board members receive $4,413 annually.

Municipal and school board incumbents who will not run for re-election have until 5 p.m. Dec. 23 to file declarations of noncandidacy. If they don't, the filing deadline for everybody else will be extended.
