Sports Wrapups: Nov. 28

Nov. 28, 2011 | 0 comments

Muskego girls basketball

Facing one of the top teams in the state in their season opener, the Warriors dropped a 57-47 decision to Beaver Dam on Saturday night at Brookfield Central.

The Golden Beavers were rated third in Division 2 by Wissports.com and feature a number of talented and experienced players.

"It's a good, athletic team," coach Brian Hirtz said. "They (the Beavers) were already in sync. This was a good opening game for us. It showed us the things we've got to work on."

Jessica Mlachnik led Muskego with 11 points, while Shannon Riley added eight points, Jessica Cattani seven and Julia Keegan and Kaitlyn Hein six each.

"We saw some glimpses of good things," Hirtz continued. "We need to play more under control. We had some turnovers and rushed some shots."

Muskego boys basketball

Despite 19 points, including four 3-point goals, from David Mlachnik and 10 by Sam Weier, the Warriors fell 64-49 to Oconomowoc on Nov. 22.

Muskego fell behind 29-11 after one quarter and trailed 44-23 at the half before making things a little bit closer in the second half.

Muskego swimming, wrestling

The Warrior teams will both open the season Dec. 1 at home against Racine Horlick.

The swimmers will meet the Rebels at 4:30 p.m., while the wrestlers, led by WIAA state champions Jordan Gruettner and Roland Dunlap, will take to the mats at 7 p.m.

Both will also compete Saturday, the wrestlers in the Oconomowoc Invitational (9 a.m.) and the swimmers in the Hartford Invitational (noon).
