Warriors dominate SEC swim meet

Muskego captures firsts in 10 of 12 races

Muskego-The Southeast Conference Swimming and Diving Meet on Saturday was a cruise for Muskego.

The Warriors won 10 of 12 events, totaling 592½ points to leave the rest of the eight-team field in their wake. Kenosha Tremper was second, 407½.

In the 100 butterfly, the Warriors swept the top four places. Emma Szczupakiewicz won in 59.13 seconds, while Hope Borland was second (1:00.58), Michelle Beiermeister third (1:03.91) and Sara Biro fourth (1:04.41).

In the 100 breaststroke, the Warriors claimed five of the top six spots. Sami Pochowski won in 1 minute, 3.99 seconds, while Kari Balson took second (1:09.83), Casey Balson fourth (1:13.49), Biro fifth (1:13.62) and Jordan Keiser sixth (1:15.08).

In the 100 backstroke, Muskego held five of the top eight positions. Szczupakiewicz was first (59.96 seconds), followed by Megan Liebl in second (1:02.06), Jessica Pollack fifth (1:04.67), Lindsay Zess sixth (1:07.27) and Taylor Cesarz eighth (1:08.83).

The Warriors took four of the top five spots in the 500 freestyle. Kristen Kaiser won (5:15.96), while Claire Borland finished second (5:26.53), Beiermeister third (5:37.85) and Casey Balson fifth (5:43.57).

Finally, Muskego held three of the top four spots in the 200 individual medley. Hope Borland was first (2:17.82), while Kari Balson claimed second (2:20.47) and Keiser fourth (2:23.08).

The Warriors went one-two in two races: the 200 freestyle with Kaiser first (1:59.4) and Claire Borland second (2:01.88) and the 100 freestyle with Pochowski first (52.58) and Pollack second (57.67).

Szczupakiewicz, Pochowski, Liebl and Kaiser won the 200 medley relay (1:50.93) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:41.22), and the 200 freestyle relay of Kari Balson, Biro, Pollack and Claire Borland was first (1:44.71).

Liebl was second in the 50 freestyle (25.92).

In diving, Shannon Staral, who had won the event the previous week in a dual against Oak Creek, was 12th with 238 points.

The Warriors will compete in a WIAA Division 1 sectional at Waukesha South at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Pochowski and Szczupakiewicz will look to return to state and defend their championships.
